I have experimented with changing the colour, hue and contrast with
photoshop. I'm thinking about making these into a video for my strong

Sampling- Alix Dessain
Not knowing what to do with the prints I started to think in what other ways I could manipulate the paper to make a more interesting room divider. I immediately thought of origami, so I looked at he various ways in which different shapes were made. I Started to play around with paper, folding it and cutting it in different ways and this is what turned out....
My Prints- Alix Dessain
Here is what I have done with the scanned images that I printed on A1. I wanted to do more with them to make them more interesting and attractive, so I screen printed and stitched onto them. I really like the effect the stitch gives, as it reminds me more of the original lines on the maps and adds a bit of texture to the paper.

Large Scale Printing- Alix Dessain
Not being very good with technology I have kept putting off going to use the large scale printers, but I have finally gone, and although it is quite complicated it is easier than I thought it would be! I scanned my maps in using the A3 scanners in the Mac suite in Chatham, I edited some of them and made them into patterns by layering and repeating them on Photoshop. I printed these off onto both paper and tracing paper and am now going to work into them and see what effects will come out!

Drawings and ideas- Laura Paterson
These are some sketchbook pages i have been doing recently focusing on City life, students and partying, I like the idea of using song lyrics In my work because people can relate to them. I also like drawing the crows of people at music festivals as they portray students having fun and relates to my arrivals task at the beginning of the project.

Arrivals task two - Laura Paterson
Image 1: After a day of people watching in the city centre I listed down all the
things that made up a city- I then went home and decided to put all the
things on the list on to a page together to create a jumpled effect-
this is the outcome. I think it works well and i like the text combined
with numbers.
Image 2:public transport is a huge part of the city, everywhere you look there are buses, taxi bikes and trains etc. I started to think about what people did to pass the time whilst on public transport which is why i have put a crossword on it- again relating back to letters and text. I also liked the idea of markmaking taking inspiration from the lines which divide lanes in the road and traffic lights etc.
Image 3: Every city has homeless people in it and i wanted to
bring this in to my project as i feel that they are often overlooked. I like the contrast between the grubby looking man and his dog in comparisson with the bold, bright architecture. I have layered gouache on top of coloured pencils to create the beaming light.
Image 4: I have used lettreset on graph paper to create a background which i could work on to. I like the idea of business men and numbers, computers and technology going a bit mad. The playing cards relate to business men as they are always taking risks with money and i have combined it with a pop star and a yellow cab to create chaos.
Image 5: I really like the idea of combining maps with images and text, I also enjoyed markmaking and creating pattern making this design sheet. I wanted to make it wacky and quirky adding images of celebrities. I have used a variety of medias such as pen, felt tip, tettresset's and collage.
Image 6: This image is jumbled up chaos, exactly what i want to portray in my work. From architecture to people, technology, public transport, numbers and text. I want to add more to this piece of work as i move forward with my project as i don't think there should be any blank spaces.

Fahima Chowdhury - A Second Attempt On Video Making,Inspired By Escher!
This attempt had more editing!! Should I do more? The more I watch this video the more I find it quiet blurry?I guess its a learning curve!
Fahima Chowdhury My Video, Inspired By Escher!
This is my first attempt ever making a video of my work, I hope you like it group!!
Fahima Chowdhury - M.C Escher you inspiration!!!
I was just looking for something to help me move my work forward and I came across Escher and his work just amazes me every time I see it. the way he uses shapes is remarkable. For me, at first glance his work seems to come off the page, as if its 3D, however its a flat surface. 3D may have a part to play in my work, maybe??
I just love the way he creates beautiful patterns with these shapes. He inspired some of my work. Also I love how its all black and white, because I feel its appropriate for the geometrical pieces. My work is also black and white but for a different reason, I just find it suitable for what I am doing, and I enjoy the simplicity in a chaotic design, which I would like to think Escher would of enjoyed to, maybe.

Fahima Chowdhury - Shape and Light(my work)
For Unit X I will be looking at shape and light. I got this idea from my arrivals task tale were I was describing the fountains as crystals and describing how the light would reflect of it.
What I have done is taken shapes that I can see from the fountain images that I have taken. I then converted the shapes that I had drawn to solid shapes, so then I could make Maquettes. I was thinking to create patterns from the shapes the maquettes made, what you guys think??

print designs- Laura Paterson
Just a drawing for a print design, I am going to add much more detail and a background as I enjoy markmaking and creating pattern.

More ideas-Laura Paterson
There are always grotty looking posters around Cities which seem to be half torn off grafittied walls, i love the contrast this creates between textures and colours. I like to collage things and work in to them creating layers and texture. I have recently started to print which is going well so far, i feel that i need to focus on how i can translate layers and texture on to fabric. I want to embroider on top of my prints and maybe add sequins and beads. I am alsothinking about using bondaweb. I will post some pictures of my prints soon.

Movie Making- Samiyah, Fahima, Laura and Alix
Here is the final video from the moving image workshop that
we did last week. Samiyah, Fahima, Laura
and I shot this video in the weave room, and it was then edited. Although it is basic, it gave us a idea for what we could do for our final digital outcome and the chance to get ti grips with using the camera.

More Drawings- Laura Paterson
I have been doing some quick sketches of architecture around Manchester which i thought would be nice to use in print. I like the idea of layering things and using flock and foil.
Design sheets and ideas- Laura Paterson
I have recenttly started these design sheets to get my ideas flowing, they are quirky and messy which is what I want to portray. I plan to go in to the print workshop soon and start making some chaotic prints. I want to combine numbers and text with digital print and my own drawings. I am also thinking about embroidering on top of the prints to add texture. I kind of like the idea of things being very jumbled up and messy as it creates 'chaos'.
